It's The Little Things

That make me happy most of the time. Spent the afternoon with a new friend at lunch. Then spent the evening doing a little shopping by myself. Had an especially rough night yesterday. So I decided to turn that around and pamper myself a bit today of course. How happy was I to find an adorable little note book by Kelly Rae Roberts at Target!!! I am taking her Flying Lessons creative business ecourse which is in its last week now. So I just had to have it as a token of all the inspiration, support and amazing, life changing information and knowledge from it. I also picked up some sharpies so I can give the art of Zentangle a shot soon. And.... I picked up the Square for my biz. I have been seeing ads for this on television for a while now and thought it would be a great thing to have. It was only $10 and it says once you sign up they put that $10 back in your account. I do custom orders in Michigan, Florida and Tennessee and thought this would be extremely useful when I'm traveling. I do not put everything that I make and sell on my Etsy shop. Plus, with the holidays approaching, art fairs etc. it could be pretty cool. Has anyone tried this out yet? I would love to hear about your experiences with the Square. Well, hope all finds you well, thanks for reading, and I look forward to chatting with you soon. Xoxoo

    1. Claudette you may want to check it out if you don't have a portable credit card reader. If you have an iPhone, iPad or android it attaches to it and allows you to accept credit card payments. There is no contract, they collect 2.75% per swipe which is about what etsy collects. The money goes directly to your checking account. I found this at Target for $10.

  6. Beautiful Blog! I too went out and pampered myself with some new paintbrushes and a canvas. I have been hearing a lot about the square as well. One comment from someone at a fair I attended was that you had to have a minimum amount of sales each month to avoid a fee? Not sure if this is true or not...will keep looking into it and following your progress on here. Thanks for sharing! ~Susan(fellow flyer)

    1. Hi Susan, I just used my new Square yesterday (Sunday) and my transaction is totally complete, funds in account! Wow, how cool is that. I haven't read anything about minimum monthly sales, just a 'per swipe' fee. That's it. I'll be updating my blog tomorrow with more Square info. Thanks for the info!

  7. I have the square reader and absolutely love it. It is so easy to use. Just make sure your app is updated before heading to an art show. I hadn't used mine for a few months so I did a test run with my own credit card for $1 to make sure it worked. It cost me the 3 cents in their commission fee, but it was well worth it to make sure I didn't have a problem with a customer.

People love to use it too. It will email or text a receipt to the customer if they like. It will keep their email hidden from you, so if they would like to be on your newsletter list you will have to write it down in a separate place.

Good luck, have fun and hope you get to use it a lot!

  9. How fun Shelly! I love that little book you found. I may just need to take a little trip to Target and pamper myself too!

I have heard all good things in a few business courses that the Square is a good thing. My phone is not too smart so that's not an option for me but I think that is wonderful for you and will help you with your business.
